Granite Institute to Partner with American Conservative Union Foundation on Heroin Crisis Forum

Aug 24, 2016

Granite Institute and the ACU Foundation, the 501(c)(3) educational arm of the American Conservative Union, today announced their plan to co-host a policy forum on the heroin epidemic currently sweeping New Hampshire. The “Heroin Crisis Leadership Summit,” which will take place on September 10 in Concord, will feature national speakers, local law enforcement officials, policy makers, scholars, and treatment experts in a discussion of the causes of – and possible solutions to – the problem overwhelming the state.

“The heroin crisis has touched all of us,” said Ovide Lamontagne, Chairman of Granite Action, the 501(c)(4) arm of Granite Institute. “It is a blight on our state and we need to take action to end it. The citizens of New Hampshire are under attack from forces internal and external, and it will take all of us to come together to find a solution.” Lamontagne added, “I’m excited to partner with the ACU Foundation in this effort. The American Conservative Union has been leading the conservative cause in our country for decades, and the ACU Foundation has emerged as an incubator of conservative ideas and policy solutions. We could not have a better partner in this battle.”

The ACU Foundation’s Family Prosperity Initiative was launched earlier this year to study the combined impact of economic and social factors – including illicit drug use – on the well-being of families in America. The centerpiece of the Initiative, the Family Prosperity Index, is the first true index to provide such a measure and ranks the states according to how well they facilitate an atmosphere for families to thrive. On the inaugural 2016 Index, New Hampshire’s overall rank is 22nd in the nation; however, the state ranks 45th in the nation in family health based in large part due to its high overdose rate – the 3rd worst in the country (2014 data).

“While I wish the circumstances were different, the ACU Foundation is glad to join forces with Granite Institute to tackle the heroin crisis in New Hampshire,” said ACU Foundation Executive Director Daniel Schneider. “Just about every corner of our country is being affected by it, but states like New Hampshire have been hit particularly hard, and we all want to find out why – and what to do about it. Hopefully, this leadership summit will help shed some light that will lead to a solution.”

The event, which is open to the public, will take place on Saturday, September 10, 2016, from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the Grappone Conference Center located at 70 Constitution Avenue, Concord, NH, 03301. Admission is free.
